NHC: Tropical Cyclone May Form, Head Near Florida

NOAA's National Hurricane Center Tropical Weather Outlook

, Florida – ‘s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, issued a Tropical Outlook at 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Sunday, July 28, 2024, due to the presence of a system that may form into a tropical cyclone within the next 7 days over the Caribbean and then head to Florida.

The system (marked with an orange “X”) is an area of disturbed weather located over the central tropical Atlantic that is expected to interact with an approaching tropical wave during the next several days.

NHC forecasters say that development of this system will be possible in a day or two, and a tropical depression could form around midweek while the system is near or over the northern Leeward Islands, Greater Antilles, or southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

This system has a 40% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 7 days and a near 0% chance within the next 48 hours.
