TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Greater coverage of showers and thunderstorms is expected today and Friday across the Florida Panhandle, western Big Bend, southeast Alabama’s Wiregrass, and southwest Georgia compared to recent days, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.
Storms are most likely this afternoon and evening, with even higher coverage on Friday.
A few storms may produce brief heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and isolated flash flooding.
Summer heat continues through the weekend and Labor Day. Heat index values will climb into the low-to-mid 100s this afternoon and may approach or exceed 105–107°F in some locations.
Abundant tropical moisture remains in place, supporting daily afternoon and evening storms. No significant tropical impacts are expected along the Northeast Gulf Coast.
Today features a 60–70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midday.
Rainfall of a tenth to a half inch is possible in many areas, with locally higher totals where storms move slowly.
Rain chances peak Friday (80–90 percent) before remaining elevated through the weekend as an upper-level ridge builds.
