MIAMI, Florida – The National Weather Service in Miami forecasts scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developing across South Florida on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The highest coverage is expected over interior portions of South Florida, including parts of Southwest Florida, during the afternoon into the early evening. Lingering showers and storms may continue into the evening hours. Cloud cover and rain may keep afternoon temperatures a little cooler, but highs will still run around 90.
Storms may produce heavy rainfall, gusty or damaging winds, and frequent lightning. A few storms may become strong to severe.
South Florida is under a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall, and localized flooding is possible in urban and poor-drainage areas, especially where rainfall rates are high and storm motion is slow.

Heat risk continues today — High temperatures will rise into the upper 80s to low 90s across most of South Florida, with forecast highs near 89°F in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, 91°F in West Palm Beach, and 90°F in Naples.
Peak heat index values will range from about 103°F to 108°F, with the highest readings expected across the east coast metro and parts of the interior, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach near 108°F, and Immokalee and Everglades City near 107°F. Clouds and storms should help keep values from climbing higher in some areas.
Today (Wednesday): Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, mainly this afternoon and evening, with the highest chances over the interior. Mostly sunny between storms, with a high near 89 to 91. Heat index values as high as 106-108 in the metro area and up to 107-108 inland. East to southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is about 50-60% in the metro, higher inland.
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the evening. Partly cloudy, with a low around 82. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30-50%.
Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89-91. Heat index values as high as 108. East to southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50-60%.
