BAY, Florida – The National Service Tampa Bay forecasts warm and humid conditions with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the Tampa Bay region and Southwest Florida today, Sunday, August 9, 2026.

High temperatures today will range from the low to mid 90s across the region (Chiefland near 93°F; Crystal River near 91°F; Brooksville near 94°F; Tampa near 93°F; Lakeland near 92°F; near 93°F; Sebring near 91°F; Arcadia near 93°F; Fort Myers near 93°F).

Rain chances are generally 30–70% across the area today, with the highest chances over interior and southern sections (Chiefland near 30%; Crystal River near 30%; Brooksville near 30%; Tampa near 40%; Lakeland near 50%; Sarasota near 50%; Sebring near 40%; Arcadia near 50%; Fort Myers near 70%).

A moist environment will allow scattered to numerous showers and storms to develop across the area again today, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. Drier conditions will return during the work week, limiting rain coverage each day to well below normal for mid-August.

Some of the stronger storms could contain gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall which could cause flooding of urban, low lying, and poor drainage areas.

High temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s with heat indices as high as 104 degrees.
