, Florida – The National Weather Service in Melbourne forecasts scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across East today, with medium to high (50-70%) coverage expected this afternoon and evening. Highs will remain in the lower 90s°F. A Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall is in effect for portions of the area this afternoon and evening.

Showers and storms will increase in coverage this afternoon as the sea breeze develops and moves inland, with peak coverage expected between 3–8 pm as sea breezes collide near or west of I-95 and east of Orlando. Storms may produce frequent lightning, gusty winds up to 50 mph, and locally heavy rainfall. Showers and storms will taper off through the evening.

The main hazards during peak storm hours this afternoon include:

  • Frequent lightning – When thunder roars, go indoors!
  • Gusty winds up to 50 mph
  • Locally heavy downpours (isolated higher amounts possible) leading to minor flooding in poor drainage areas and ponding on roadways

Exercise caution at Atlantic beaches due to a Moderate Risk of rip currents along East Central Florida beaches today. Swim near lifeguards and never enter the surf alone.

Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Muggy conditions will build with heat indices reaching 102–106°F (locally higher) this afternoon.
