Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain For Central Florida

ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service in Melbourne forecasts medium to high (50-70%) coverage of showers and thunderstorms across East Central Florida today, with the highest coverage anticipated this afternoon. Highs will remain in the lower 90s°F this afternoon.

Showers and storms will increase in coverage this afternoon as the sea breeze develops and moves inland, with peak coverage (50-70%) expected between 4–8 pm as sea breezes collide near or west of I-95 and east of Orlando.

Storms may produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall. Showers and storms will taper off through the evening.

The main hazards during peak storm hours this afternoon include:

• Frequent lightning – When thunder roars, go indoors!
• Gusty winds
• Locally heavy downpours (isolated higher amounts possible) leading to minor flooding in poor drainage areas

Exercise caution at Atlantic beaches due to a Moderate Risk of rip currents along East Central Florida beaches. Swim near lifeguards and never enter the surf alone.

Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning as muggy conditions build with heat indices reaching 102–106°F this afternoon.
