The greatest storm coverage is expected from Orlando and Cape Canaveral southward, mainly after 2 PM. Slow-moving storms may produce heavy rainfall leading to localized flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, along with frequent lightning and strong wind gusts. NWS Melbourne Today’s Weather Outlook Graphic The NWS warns of the following hazards during the peak storm hours this afternoon and evening: Frequent lightning strikes Wind gusts up to 40-55 mph in the strongest storms Locally heavy downpours that may cause localized flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas Warm and muggy conditions persist with highs in the low to mid 90s (a few areas northwest of I-4 reaching the upper 90s) and peak heat indices up to 109°F. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 AM to 7 PM for Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and northern Brevard counties. A Moderate to Major HeatRisk is forecast across the advisory area.
