JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms today across parts of North Florida and southeast Georgia. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville forecasts an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm risk this afternoon into early evening. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon through early evening. The main window is roughly 3 PM to 9 PM across northeast Florida and into southeast Georgia, mainly along the I-95 and US-301 corridors. The primary threats are damaging wind gusts of 40-60 mph from downbursts and locally heavy downpours that could lead to localized urban flooding. Other hazards include frequent lightning and small hail. Tornado risk remains very low. There are no significant tropical systems currently impacting the region. Moisture associated with typical summer patterns and a weak frontal boundary will support the storms today.
