ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms across interior portions of East Central Florida today (areas from Titusville and Orlando northward). A Marginal Risk means isolated severe storms are possible, though coverage and intensity are expected to remain limited. According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, showers and storms will increase in coverage this afternoon as the sea breeze develops and moves inland, with peak coverage expected between roughly 2–9 pm. Showers and storms will taper off through the evening. Slow-moving storms will be capable of locally heavy rainfall. The main hazards during peak storm hours this afternoon include: Frequent lightning – When thunder roars, go indoors! Gusty/damaging winds up to 60 mph (isolated in stronger storms) Locally heavy downpours (3–5 inches possible in slow-moving storms) leading to minor, localized flooding in poor drainage areas, filling of swales, and ponding on roadways.
