JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville forecasts showers and thunderstorms likely for much of North Florida today, with the greatest chance for stronger storms generally over northeast Florida east of I-75 toward the coast. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening. Stronger storms will be possible mainly from 2 PM to 9 PM. The primary threats are gusty winds of 40-50 mph and localized flooding from heavy downpours. Other hazards include frequent lightning. According to NWS Jacksonville, stronger storms may develop within the risk area, with isolated strong storms possible across the shaded region east of I-75.
