, Florida – The National Service in is forecasting continued hot, humid, and unsettled summer-like conditions across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia through early next week.

Abundant tropical moisture, daily sea-breeze convergence, and warm temperatures will fuel afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms across the region through at least early next week.

Flooding Rainfall Risk Outlook – Jacksonville (Issued Fri, May 29, 2026)

According to NWS Jacksonville, the probability of rainfall causing flash flooding is as follows:

  • Today (Friday): Marginal Risk (≥5%) with localized higher risk of urban and poor drainage flooding, especially along the I-95 corridor, beaches, and northern zones.
  • Saturday through Monday: Marginal Risk across much of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, with locally higher probabilities where thunderstorms train or produce heavy downpours.

According to NWS Jacksonville, summer-like conditions will dominate with daily afternoon and evening thunderstorms, elevated heat indices, and a moderate risk of rip currents at local beaches today.

Key hazards this period include:

  • Daily afternoon/evening thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall and gusts up to 40-45 mph possible
  • Urban and poor drainage flooding possible due to saturated ground from recent heavy rain
  • Heat indices of 95°–105°F inland (peak heat 12 PM – 6 PM)
  • Moderate risk of rip currents at Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia beaches today

In its Friday morning update, NWS Jacksonville noted that widespread showers and thunderstorms have already occurred, with additional rounds expected daily through early next week.

Tropical moisture is expected to produce rainfall totals of widespread 1–3+ inches through Monday (localized amounts of 4+ inches possible, with some training thunderstorms reaching 6+ inches). While the rain will help suppress wildfire activity, long-term drought persists and burn bans remain in effect for many counties.

With the ground now saturated in many areas following 2–3 inches of rain in portions of the region on May 28, even brief heavy downpours this afternoon and evening could cause temporary urban and localized flooding. Motorists should exercise caution on slick roads.

Beachgoers are urged to heed the moderate rip current risk today. Elevated surf and breakers are expected at beaches including St. Simons, Jekyll, Fernandina, Jacksonville, , and Flagler. Stay out of the and follow beach patrol instructions.
