Heavy Rainfall, Severe Thunderstorm Risk For South Florida

, Florida – The National Weather Service in Miami is forecasting scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across this afternoon and evening on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

With a frontal boundary approaching the area, the National Service in is forecasting high rain chances with showers and thunderstorms developing mainly this afternoon into evening. Cloudy and muggy conditions will persist before the activity ramps up.

A few storms may be strong to severe. The strongest storms could produce heavy rainfall, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail. Heavy rain may also result in localized flooding across the east coast metro. There is a Marginal Risk of severe thunderstorms (Level 1 of 5 from the Storm Prediction Center).

The highest rain chances are: 74% West Palm Beach, 69% Clewiston, 65% Palmdale, 54% , 43% Immokalee, 39% Miami, 38% Homestead, 28% Everglades City, 18% Naples, and 17% Flamingo.
