, Fla. — The Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded Friday afternoon to a barricaded subject in the Lake Forest community near Bruce B Downs Boulevard and Lake Forest Drive. The incident was directly connected to the ongoing investigation into two missing University of (USF) doctoral students — and has now led to a major breakthrough: the discovery of Zamil Limon’s remains and the arrest of his roommate in connection with both disappearances.

According to an official update from HCSO, the situation was resolved peacefully after a standoff, and one individual — identified as 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh, Zamil Limon’s roommate — is now in custody. A subsequent update confirmed HCSO has located the remains of Zamil Limon near the Howard Frankland Bridge.

“This is a deeply disturbing case that has shaken our community and impacted many who were hoping for a safe resolution,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

“While the discovery of Zamil Limon’s remains is heartbreaking, I want the public to know that our detectives worked and are working tirelessly and relentlessly to uncover the truth. We will continue to follow every fact, pursue every lead, and use every tool available to hold those responsible fully accountable. Our thoughts remain with the families of Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy during this time.”

Detectives are actively following investigative leads in the area surrounding the Howard Frankland Bridge where Limon’s remains were located. Nahida S. Bristy remains missing.

This is the latest development in the case of Nahida S. Bristy, 27, and Zamil Limon, 27, both doctoral candidates at USF and natives of Bangladesh. The pair were last seen separately on the morning of Thursday, April 16.

Bristy, a chemical engineering student, was last observed around 10 a.m. at the Natural and Environmental Sciences Building on USF’s Tampa campus. Limon, who is pursuing a doctorate in geography and environmental and policy, was last seen around 9 a.m. at his residence on Avalon Heights Boulevard in Tampa.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives recently elevated both cases to “endangered” status after new information came to light.
