Lt. Governor Jay Collins Enters Florida Governor Race

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins officially entered the race for governor on Monday, positioning himself as a battle-tested leader drawing from his extensive military background to continue the state’s conservative trajectory, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.

In a Facebook post shared earlier today, Collins, a Republican and former Green Beret, emphasized his over 23 years of service in the United States military as the foundation for his candidacy.

“I’m running for Governor because leadership is forged under pressure, not in soundbites,” Collins stated. “I served over 23 years in the United States military, mainly as a Green Beret, where accountability is real, decisions have consequences, and service comes before self. That experience shaped how I lead and why I believe public office is a public trust.”

Collins, who was appointed lieutenant governor by Gov. Ron DeSantis in August 2025, highlighted his collaboration with the outgoing governor in advancing a “bold, conservative agenda.” He praised Florida as a beacon of “freedom, opportunity, and personal responsibility,” vowing to build on DeSantis’ legacy. “I did not come to chase headlines. I came to deliver results,” Collins added, citing his support for law enforcement and community protection, NBC Miami noted.

The announcement comes as DeSantis, a Republican in his second term, is barred by term limits from seeking reelection in 2026.
