SAINT PETERSBURG, Florida – A 32-year-old mother of two has been charged with filing a false police report after authorities say she used an AI-generated image to fabricate a sexual assault allegation.

Brooke Schinault contacted police on October 7, claiming that a male stranger had forced his way into her apartment, knocked her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by thesmokinggun.com.

As part of her report, she provided what she described as a photograph of the suspect, allegedly taken while he was seated on her couch during the incident.

The report prompted a significant response from law enforcement, with multiple officers and forensic technicians dispatched to the scene to investigate the alleged .

However, a closer examination of the evidence raised red flags. Investigators determined that the image was not a genuine photograph but had been created using ChatGPT’s AI capabilities.

Further analysis revealed the file in a deleted folder on her device, with metadata showing it was generated several days prior to the supposed October 7 attack.

When confronted with these findings, Schinault admitted to fabricating the entire story, according to police records.

She was subsequently arrested on charges of falsely reporting a crime, a misdemeanor offense.

Schinault spent one night in Jail before being released on a $1,000 bond.

In the days leading up to her arrest, Schinault posted on Instagram about her personal experiences with abuse, adding that October is domestic violence awareness month, thesmokinggun.com noted.

“He sexually assaulted me but all I can say is I survived I made it out,” she wrote, adding that she had endured years in an abusive relationship.

While this post does not directly reference the fabricated incident, it has fueled speculation about possible connections to her alleged false claim,

“When creating fake evidence becomes as simple as typing a prompt, the entire foundation of digital proof shifts,” opined gadgetreview.com.
