According to NWS Jacksonville, scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected today with main hazards of gusty winds and brief flooding. A tropical depression is expected to form near the Bahamas over the weekend, strengthening into Tropical Storm Imelda, tracking northward parallel to the east Florida coast, with local marine and surf zone impacts likely late Sunday into next week. No active severe weather watches or warnings at this time. There is a moderate rip current risk today. Highs in the upper 80s today.

Storms will continue to develop through the weekend, with heavy downpours expected, bringing potential isolated flood risk.

Storms will be capable of producing:

  • Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding, mainly in urban areas.
  • Gusty winds.
  • Frequent lightning.

The greatest risk for thunderstorms is in the afternoon, with expected rainfall of a tenth to quarter inch, except locally higher in thunderstorms today. There is also a high chance of precipitation, ranging from 50-60% across much of the region.
