Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds For North Florida As Tropical Depression 9 Nears

, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a forecast for predicting a chance of showers and thunderstorms today, while monitoring Tropical Depression 9 expected to become Tropical Storm Imelda later today, potentially bringing marine and beach hazards starting tonight into next week, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

According to NWS Jacksonville, Tropical Depression 9 will strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda later today over the Bahamas and into a Monday night/Tuesday as it parallels the Florida Atlantic coast with a forecast track a bit more east.

Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for the NE FL/SE GA waters as dangerous boating conditions develop tonight/early Monday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today, mainly in the afternoon. No active severe weather watches or warnings at this time. Moderate rip current risk today, increasing with the tropical system.

Storms may develop today, with heavy downpours possible, bringing potential isolated flood risk.

Storms will be capable of producing:

  • Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding, mainly in urban areas.
  • Gusty winds.
  • Frequent lightning.

The greatest risk for thunderstorms is in the afternoon along and east of the I-95 corridor, with expected rainfall of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher in thunderstorms. There is also a chance of precipitation ranging from 50% across much of the region.

North Florida cities at risk for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms include regions such as:

  • Saint Augustine
  • Palm Coast
