ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service Melbourne has issued a forecast for Central Florida on Sunday, August 17, 2025, of rain chances around 60% across the interior and 40-60% along the coast, with afternoon sea breeze storms focusing on the interior.

Stronger storms will be capable of frequent lightning, gusty winds of 40 to 50 mph, and heavy rainfall which could lead to minor flooding.

Rain chances will remain near normal through mid-week, decreasing slightly by late week, while temperatures will rise to above normal values by Thursday. A moderate risk of rip currents at the beaches is expected today, increasing to high risk starting Monday due to swells from Major Hurricane Erin.

Major Hurricane Erin, currently a Category 3 storm passing north of Puerto Rico, is forecast to remain well east of Florida. However, coastal impacts including high rip current risk, rough surf, and hazardous boating conditions will arrive Monday and peak Tuesday through Thursday.
