ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service Melbourne has issued a forecast for Central Florida on Sunday, August 24, 2025, of scattered to numerous thunderstorms from early morning through the afternoon, with a 70-90% chance of precipitation. Winds from the east at 5 to 10 mph are expected, with gusts up to 40-50 mph possible in storms.

Rain chances will remain high through early next week, around 70-90%, decreasing slightly by mid-week, while temperatures will remain near or slightly below normal. A high risk of rip currents at the beaches is in effect through today, with lingering swells causing rough surf of 3 to 4 feet and hazardous boating conditions today. Small craft should exercise caution, with seas 4 to 6 feet.

Near normal temperatures with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s continue, resulting in peak afternoon heat indices up to around 95-102 degrees today.

There is currently one active tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin: Tropical Storm Fernand in the central subtropical Atlantic, moving north-northeast with no threat to Florida. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical disturbance (AL99) about 200 miles east of the Windward Islands with a 40% chance of development over the next 2 and 7 days, expected to move westward and bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to portions of the Windward and Leeward Islands, but conditions become less favorable later with no imminent threats to East Central Florida. Coastal impacts from lingering swells, including high rip current risk, rough surf up to 3-4 feet, minor beach erosion, and hazardous boating conditions will continue today.
