Strong Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain, Flood Risk For North Florida

, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a forecast for predicting strong thunderstorms on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

According to NWS Jacksonville, a  convergence of east and gulf coast sea breezes will amplify storm intensity between Highways 301 and I-75 in Northeast Florida this afternoon and evening. Heavy downpours and some strong storms are expected inland, deviating from typical coastal patterns.

Stronger storms over portions of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia will be capable of producing:

  • Damaging wind gusts up to 50 mph capable of impacting structures and trees.
  • Small hail.
  • Frequent lightning.
  • Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding, mainly in urban areas.

North Florida cities at risk for strong thunderstorms include inland regions within the shaded area such as:

  • Lake City
  • Jacksonville
  • Gainesville
  • Starke
  • Ocala

Additionally, heavy downpours on already-saturated ground increases the risk for flooding, especially in urban areas.
