ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service Melbourne has issued a forecast for Central Florida on Friday, August 22, 2025, of scattered to numerous thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with a 70-80% chance of precipitation. Winds from the west-southwest at 5 to 10 mph are expected, with gusts up to 40-50 mph possible in storms.
Thunderstorms are capable of frequent lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall which could lead to minor flooding.
Near normal temperatures with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s continue, resulting in peak afternoon heat indices up to around 102 degrees today.
Rain chances will remain high through the weekend, around 70-75%, decreasing slightly by early next week, while temperatures will remain near or slightly above normal. A high risk of rip currents at the beaches is in effect through the weekend, with swells from Hurricane Erin causing rough surf of 3 to 4 feet and hazardous boating conditions peaking today through Saturday. Small craft should exercise caution, with seas 4 to 6 feet.
Hurricane Erin, currently with sustained winds of 90 mph and undergoing extratropical transition well offshore at 38.6N 65.3W, is forecast to remain away from Florida. However, coastal impacts including high rip current risk, rough surf up to 3-4 feet, minor beach erosion, and hazardous boating conditions will continue through the weekend.
