Heavy Rain, Flood Watch For Florida Panhandle

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The National Weather Service Tallahassee has issued a Flood Watch for much of the region outside of the Southeast Florida Big Bend, effective immediately and extending through Tuesday evening, August 5.

Residents are urged to prepare for multiple rounds of slow-moving showers and storms over the next couple of days, with locally heavy rain posing the primary concern and potential for isolated flash flooding.

NWS meteorologists anticipate widespread rainfall amounts ranging from 1 to 3 inches across the affected areas, with isolated locations possibly receiving up to 8 inches over the next few days. The slow movement of these storm systems increases the risk of significant water accumulation, particularly in low-lying and urban areas with poor drainage.

The Flood Watch covers portions of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia, excluding the Southeast Florida Big Bend.

The NWS warns that excessive runoff could lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other flood-prone locations. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris, exacerbating the risk in urban areas.

While the heaviest rain is expected to be isolated, the cumulative effect of multiple storm rounds could challenge infrastructure and prompt road closures.

Cooler Conditions Amid the Rain

Temperatures are expected to remain cooler than typical August levels, ranging from the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, thanks to persistent cloud cover and rainfall.
