JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a forecast for North Florida predicting rounds of downpours and thunderstorms continuing through Wednesday, with a continued threat for localized flooding, especially at urban and normally flood-prone locations. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1920"] National Weather Service Jacksonville Heavy Rain Potential for North Florida[/caption] According to NWS Jacksonville, breezy northeast winds will increase the rip current risk through Wednesday at the southeast Georgia and northeast Florida beaches, with a high rip current risk in effect. Rounds of heavy downpours will impact the area, with the threat for localized flooding increasing along the I-95 corridor. No active severe weather watches or warnings at this time, but isolated flash flooding is possible. The surf will be rough, building to 3-5 ft on Monday. Storms will continue to develop, with heavy downpours expected, bringing isolated flood risk through midweek. Storms will be capable of producing: Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding, mainly in urban areas. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. Frequent lightning. The greatest risk for heavy downpours is along the I-95 corridor, with expected rainfall of 1-1.5 inches and locally as high as 2-3+ inches possible through Wednesday. There is also a high chance of precipitation, ranging from 60-80% across much of the region.
