SPRING HILL, Fla. — A teacher at Explorer K-8 school was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a fence on campus, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on August 12, 2025, around 11:43 a.m., when deputies responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident in the rear parking lot of the school. The school’s resource deputy arrived first and discovered Philip Scire, 32, unconscious behind the steering wheel of his car, with the vehicle still in gear.
Authorities noted several empty single-serving alcohol containers within Scire’s reach inside the vehicle. Scire, who teaches at Explorer K-8, was immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
At the hospital, a deputy from the Traffic Unit interviewed Scire and detected a strong odor of alcohol. Despite multiple attempts to obtain consent for a blood draw to test for blood alcohol content or other substances, Scire refused to provide a sample.
Following medical clearance, Scire was charged with one count of DUI. Records show he had a prior DUI arrest in Broward County in 2014.
Scire was then taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $1,000.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details on the crash or any potential impact on the school community. The investigation remains ongoing.
