DeSantis Orders Flags Flown At Half-Staff In Florida On Wednesday, August 20, 2025

PALM BEACH, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in remembrance of Florida State Representative Joseph Casello.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, Representative Joseph Casello passed away at the age of 73. Representative Casello served for nearly 7 years in the Florida Legislature.

Before becoming a State Representative, Casello served Palm Beach County as a City Commissioner for 5 years. Before serving Palm Beach County, he worked as a firefighter for three decades in his hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Representative Casello also honorably served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force in the early 1970s.

He was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2018 to represent District 90, where he served until his death in 2025. Representative Casello spent his career committed to public service, and he will be remembered for his dedication to improving his community

To honor Representative Joseph Casello, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Palm Beach County from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, August 20, 2025,” DeSantis stated in a Memorandum.
