Miami, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Broward County and Southeastern Palm Beach County on May 4 at 2:42 PM EDT, effective until 3:15 PM EDT.
At 2:41 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Parkland, close to Coral Springs, moving northeast at 15 mph. The storm brings hazards including 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, which could cause hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Affected areas include Coral Springs, Boca Raton, Tamarac, Parkland, Loxahatchee NWR, Mission Bay, Hamptons at Boca Raton, Kings Point, Whisper Walk, Godfrey Road, Ramblewood East, South County Regional Park, Morikami Park, Villages of Oriole, Boca Raton Equestrian, and Sandalfoot Cove.
Residents are urged to remain alert for a possible tornado, as tornadoes can form rapidly during severe thunderstorms. If a tornado is spotted, seek shelter immediately in a small, central room of a sturdy structure. For safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
