MIAMI, Florida – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk (Level 2/5) severe weather outlook for South Florida due to the potential for severe thunderstorms expected to impact the region on Monday, May 5, 2025.
The National Weather Service in Miami forecasts scattered thunderstorms in South Florida this afternoon through early evening, with an increasing risk of severe storms in the Lake Okeechobee region and east coast metro areas from Miami northward to West Palm Beach, including Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, and lightning poses a significant risk, especially for outdoor events.
These storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and large hail.
Storms that produce hailstones the size of quarters or larger can result in dents on cars, damage to roofs, break windows, and can be deadly to animals and people.
Large hailstones can fall at speeds faster than 100 mph.
