MIAMI, Florida – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the South Florida Water Management District are calling on adventurers and conservationists to join the 2025 Florida Python Challenge, a 10-day event aimed at removing invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades ecosystem.
With $25,000 in prizes, including a $10,000 Ultimate Grand Prize for the participant who removes the most pythons, the competition promises both environmental impact and exciting rewards.
This year’s challenge, running from July 11 at 12:01 a.m. to July 20 at 5 p.m., introduces Everglades National Park as one of eight official competition locations.
Registration opened today, and participants can sign up at FLPythonChallenge.org, where they can access required online training, explore optional training opportunities, and find resources on Burmese pythons, the Everglades, and trip planning.
Last year, participants in the 2024 Florida Python Challenge removed 195 invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades, resulting in a total of 1,112 of the nonnative constrictors being removed cumulatively during all Florida Python Challenge competitions to date. In 2024, 857 people from 33 states and Canada registered for the 10-day competition.
