POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A woman was attacked and killed by an alligator at Lake Kissimmee State Park on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place as the woman was kayaking with another individual when she encountered an alligator and entered the water.
Authorities later recovered her body, confirming her death, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, FOX Weather reports.
The circumstances surrounding her entry into the water remain under investigation, and the victim’s identity has not been released.
This fatal attack follows another alligator-related incident in Polk County just two months prior.
On March 3, 2025, a woman was bitten by an alligator while kayaking with a group near Tiger Lake.
She suffered a bite to her elbow and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials who responded to the scene along with Polk County Fire Rescue.
Alligator attacks resulting in serious injuries are uncommon in Florida. The FWC oversees such incidents through its Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program (SNAP), which aims to ensure public safety by addressing alligator-related threats.
Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant around Florida’s waterways, where alligators are a natural presence.
