, Fla. — The National Service in Tallahassee issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern and southeastern in Big Bend, Florida, on April 28 at 5:23 PM EDT.

The warning remains in effect until 6:15 PM EDT.

At 5:23 PM EDT, radar detected a severe thunderstorm located 9 miles southwest of Mayo, moving southwest at 10 mph. The storm brings hazards including wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

Authorities warn of potential hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Affected areas include San Pedro Junction and Cooks Hammock. Residents are urged to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building for safety.

The storm is also producing torrential rainfall, which may cause flash flooding. Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded roadways.
