TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In response to the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton from in 2024, the Internal Revenue Service has granted a tax relief extension for all Florida residents and businesses.
The Florida deadline for filing and paying federal taxes has been pushed to May 1, 2025.

The IRS clarified that payments for 2023 returns with extensions, originally due by April 15, 2024, are not eligible for this relief, as they predate the hurricanes.
Florida taxpayers with an IRS address on file will automatically qualify for the extension, and no additional steps are required. Those who receive late filing or payment penalty notices for deadlines within this period can contact the IRS to have penalties abated.
Additionally, the Florida Department of Revenue announced that the state’s corporate income and franchise tax return deadline will also be extended to May 1, 2025.
The Internal Revenue Service began accepting individual tax return filers on Monday, January 27, 2025, for 2024 tax year returns.
