IRS Florida Tax Deadline 2025 Extension

, Fla. — In response to the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton from in 2024, the has granted a tax relief extension for all Florida residents and businesses.

The Florida deadline for filing and paying federal taxes has been pushed to May 1, 2025.

This extension covers a wide range of federal tax obligations, including:

  • 2024 individual and business tax returns, typically due in March or April 2025.
  • 2023 individual and corporate returns for those with valid extensions.
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments for 2024 (due Jan. 15, 2025) and 2025 (due April 15, 2025).
  • Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns due on Oct. 31, 2024, Jan. 31, 2025, and April 30, 2025.

The IRS clarified that payments for 2023 returns with extensions, originally due by April 15, 2024, are not eligible for this relief, as they predate the hurricanes.

Florida taxpayers with an IRS address on file will automatically qualify for the extension, and no additional steps are required. Those who receive late filing or payment penalty notices for deadlines within this period can contact the IRS to have penalties abated.

Additionally,  the Florida Department of Revenue announced that the state’s corporate income and franchise tax return deadline will also be extended to May 1, 2025.

The Internal Revenue Service began accepting individual tax return filers on Monday, January 27, 2025, for 2024 tax year returns.
