WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — On April 26, 2025, a violent domestic dispute in West Palm Beach ended in tragedy when a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a suspect who was actively stabbing another family member with a sword.
Deputies responded to a call shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive, where they encountered an armed confrontation between two adult family members inside a residence.
Upon entering the home, deputies witnessed a male suspect attacking another adult male with a sword.
Despite verbal commands to drop the weapon, the suspect did not comply, prompting a deputy to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect.
Deputies immediately provided medical aid to both the victim and the suspect.
Both the 52-year-old father and the 20-year-old son succumbed to their injuries, according to the Sun Sentinel.
The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay, per standard protocol.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased or further details pending the ongoing investigation.
