LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida – Calling all Space Rangers! Walt Disney World has announced a comprehensive refurbishment for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom park, set to begin in August 2025 with a planned reopening in 2026.
The upgrade includes a new game engine, enhanced blacklight effects, an improved laser targeting system, new animatronics, refreshed sets, and new ride vehicles with onboard effects, according to Disney Parks Blog.
A new character, a robot named Buddy, will be introduced to train guests on using new handheld blasters, replacing the current fixed blasters.
The refurbishment comes as part of Disney’s broader efforts to modernize its offerings, with playtests of the new blasters and targets already underway to fine-tune the experience to take Space Rangers “to infinity and beyond” like never before.
