PORT EVERGLADES, Florida – The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded 46,000 pounds of illegal drugs, including cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana, valued at $517 million, at Port Everglades, Florida, on March 20, 2025.
The drugs were seized during 14 interdictions in the Eastern Pacific Ocean by the crews of U.S. Coast Guard cutters Stone and Mohawk, supported by helicopter interdiction tactical squadron aircrews and a Tactical Law Enforcement Team-Pacific detachment. Thirty-four suspected smugglers were detained.
“You’ve heard it said before that the Coast Guard’s national security cutters are game changers in the counter-drug mission, but they require a crew of men and women willing to serve on or over the sea and place themselves in harm’s way,” said Capt. Carter, commanding officer of Stone.
“Thanks to our Coast Guard’s maritime security and interdiction efforts, over half a billion dollars worth of illegal drugs never reached American communities. That means fewer lives lost to overdoses and fewer resources in the hands of violent cartels,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated on X.
