ORLANDO, Fla. – A tornado struck the FOX 35 Orlando news studio while the station’s meteorologist was live on air covering severe weather in Central Florida on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The National Weather Service first issued a tornado warning at 9:33 a.m. EDT, alerting that a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was near Wekiwa Springs State Park, close to Altamonte Springs, and moving toward Lake Mary. Just minutes later, the twister touched down, hitting the news station as meteorologists tracked its path in real-time.
By 9:42 a.m. EDT, emergency management officials confirmed that a damaging tornado had made landfall over Lake Mary.
As the saying goes, “News never happens in the newsroom”—except, this time, it did.
In nearby Longwood, a home was destroyed by the tornado.
“Today at 9:49 a.m., the Seminole County Fire Department responded to 2100 Block of Blue Iris in Longwood to a collapsed home due to weather impacts,” Seminole County Fire Rescue posted on Facebook. “There were two occupants and both were uninjured.” Residents are currently safe.”
