On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Senator Thompson passed away at the age of 76. She served for nearly two decades in the Florida Legislature. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006 where she served until 2012. Senator Thompson was then elected to the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2016. She returned to the Florida House from 2018 to 2022. Senator Thompson was re-elected to the Florida Senate in 2022 representing District 15 where she served until her death. Senator Thompson spent her career committed to public service. She will be remembered for her dedication to improving her community.
In a memorandum issued Tuesday, Governor DeSantis directed the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida and all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Orange County from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
