Miami-Dade Brushfire To Florida Keys: 3/22/25 Update

HOMESTEAD, Florida – -Dade (MDFR) and Florida Forest Service crews are making progress in their efforts to contain the 344 Fire, a massive brush fire that has been burning in southern Miami- since March 18.

As of 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, the fire has consumed 26,719 acres but is now 65% contained, according to a recent update from MDFR.

The wildfire started under dry and windy conditions, leading to its rapid spread and prompting authorities to close key roadways, including Card Sound Road and sections of U.S. 1, which connects the to the mainland.

On March 19, containment was reported at just 20%, with smoke visible as far as Exit 5 of Florida’s Turnpike, causing major disruptions in Florida City.

MDFR has advised drivers on Card Sound Road and U.S. 1 to remain vigilant, as intermittent road closures may continue while crews work to fully contain the fire.

“As #MDFR crews continue working the #344Fire, we urge residents to stay away from the area of the fire. Do not drive through the area with UTVs or ATVs as these types of human activities can cause fires to spark quickly due to the dry vegetation,” MDFR added on X.
