TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Starting April 5, 2025, playing Mega Millions will cost players more than double to buy a single ticket. That’s because ticket prices are set to increase from $2 to $5,
The first drawing under the new pricing structure will take place on April 8, 2025. This is the second price hike in the lottery game’s history since its debut in 2002. The previous increase, from $1 to $2, occurred in 2017.
This change comes with a revamp designed to make the game more enticing for players. Starting jackpots will grow larger, prizes will escalate more quickly, and the odds of hitting the jackpot will improve. Every $5 ticket will now include an automatic multiplier—2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X—boosting non-jackpot winnings.
Breakeven prizes were also eliminated, ensuring that all Mega Millions winners take home more than the ticket price.
