James Uthmeier was sworn in as Florida's Attorney General during a ceremony in Tallahassee on February 17, 2025.
FORT LAUDERDALE– Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has initiated a criminal investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate after their recent arrival from Romania, where they face charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
“Last week, I directed my office to work with our law enforcement partners to conduct a preliminary inquiry into Andrew and Tristan Tate,” Uthmeier posted on X.
“Based on a thorough review of the evidence, I’ve directed the Office of Statewide Prosecution to execute search warrants and issue subpoenas in the now-active criminal investigation into the Tate brothers.”
The brothers, dual U.S.-British citizens, departed Bucharest on a private jet and arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 27, 2025.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a firm and public stand against the arrival of Andrew and Tristan Tate in the Sunshine State.
Speaking at a press conference last week, DeSantis was asked by a reporter whether the brothers were welcome. His response was unequivocal: “The reality is, no, Florida is not a place where you’re welcome with that type of conduct.”
