POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A woman was attacked by an alligator while paddling in a kayak near Tiger Creek Preserve in Polk County on Monday, March 3, 2025.
The incident took place as the woman paddled in waters near Tiger Lake and Lake Kissimmee State Park. She suffered a bite to her elbow and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials who responded to the scene along with Polk County Fire Rescue.
A nuisance alligator trapper, contracted through the FWC, was dispatched to locate and remove the alligator responsible for the attack.
Alligator attacks resulting in serious injuries are uncommon in Florida. The FWC oversees such incidents through its Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program (SNAP), which aims to ensure public safety by addressing alligator-related threats.
Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant around Florida’s waterways, where alligators are a natural presence.
