TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the state is returning $878,112,000.00 in federal taxpayer dollars to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The decision, outlined in a formal letter from DeSantis’ office, follows a meeting with Elon Musk and representatives from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal initiative led by Musk under President Donald Trump.
The letter, addressed to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, states that Florida’s action is part of DOGE’s efforts to streamline government spending and eliminate waste.
“For years, Florida has been trying to return federal funds to the federal government due to the ideological strings attached by the Biden Administration—but they couldn’t even figure out how to accept it,” DeSantis posted on X.
Today, I met with @elonmusk and the DOGE team, and we got this done in the same day. Other states should follow Florida in supporting DOGE’s efforts!”
