TAMPA, Florida – Strong thunderstorms are moving through parts of Manatee, southeastern Hillsborough, and north-central Sarasota counties this evening, bringing gusty winds and potential hazards to the area.
The National Weather Service in Ruskin issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:58 PM EST, warning residents of storms tracking east at 30 mph. Doppler radar detected the storm system extending from north of Memphis to Kensington Park. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are expected, which could bring down tree limbs and scatter unsecured objects.
Communities in the storm’s path include Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, Fish Hawk, Brandon, Lakewood Ranch, Ellenton, and Riverview, among others. Officials advise residents to seek shelter indoors if outside and remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
