New York Murder Suspect Captured In Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – A man wanted in connection with a double homicide in New York was apprehended today in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Scott C. Mitchell is wanted in connection with a double homicide in Binghamton, New York, where he is suspected of killing Daniel McCloe and Marshall VanOven. The victims were reported missing on February 3, 2025, and were found deceased two days later.

Initially, Mitchell was believed to be on foot in the DeLand area of Volusia County, Florida. The manhunt for him expanded from Binghamton to Florida after his vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Impala, was found abandoned in Dorchester County, South Carolina.

Earlier today,  the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to Mitchell’s arrest.

Ultimately, Mitchell was located in Daytona Beach, which is east of DeLand but also in Volusia County.

“Double murder suspect Scott Mitchell is in custody in Daytona Beach. The person who called in the tip just earned $10,000,” the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office posted on X following Mitchell’s arrest.

Authorities from both Binghamton and Volusia County, along with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, were involved in the search.
