TALLAHASSEE, Florida – James Uthmeier was sworn in as Florida’s Attorney General during a ceremony in Tallahassee on February 17, 2025, where he was described by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a “bulldog” for his combative approach in previous roles.
Uthmeier, previously DeSantis’s chief of staff, was appointed to replace former Attorney General Ashley Moody, who moved to the U.S. Senate after Marco Rubio’s appointment as Secretary of State by President Donald Trump.
“James Uthmeier has been instrumental in virtually all of Florida’s achievements over the past six years. From fighting COVID authoritarians to defeating woke ideology to enacting strong policies against illegal immigration, James has fought the good fight on behalf of the people of Florida,” DeSantis posted on X.
“He will be a strong, active Attorney General and will do the people of Florida proud.”
