Hooters Plans On Bankruptcy Filing

CLEARWATER, Florida –  Less than a year after closing several restaurant locations across the U.S., including Florida, Hooters announced plans to file for bankruptcy.

According to Bloomberg, the company is working on a restructuring plan to address its financial difficulties through bankruptcy court. This follows a challenging period for the casual dining chain, which has seen declining sales and closed around 40 underperforming locations in the summer of 2024 as a cost-cutting measure.

Hooters’ financial difficulties are part of a broader trend affecting casual dining establishments like Red Lobster.

Despite these struggles, Hooters has emphasized its resilience and relevance, pointing to new ventures like its frozen line sold in supermarkets. However, if the company cannot refinance its debt, bankruptcy and further closures remain a possibility.

“Go woke, go broke,” was an often repeated response to the Hooters bankruptcy on social media.

Critics blame the breastaurant chain’s downfall on hiring transgender men and embracing body positivity with the hiring of plus-sized servers.
