JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A routine drug bust took an unexpected turn in downtown Jacksonville when a suspect attempted to flee—only to be apprehended by an officer on horseback.
Jordan Wilson, 25, tried to escape after allegedly handing off illegal drugs, but he didn’t anticipate the quick response of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Mounted Unit. Officer Cassie Haire and her police service horse, Nash, galloped into action, closing the distance in a quarter-mile chase before Wilson surrendered to Officer Zackary Maryland.
The chase, which was captured on police bodycam video, quickly gained attention on social media, with Nash emerging as the star of the moment.
Wilson now faces charges related to drug offenses, and while he may have tried to outrun the law, this case proved that criminals can’t escape the long reach—or the fast hooves—of justice.
“Our Mounted Unit doesn’t just horse around when it comes to crime,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
