MARTIN COUNTY, Florida – A 22-year-old Guatemalan migrant was arrested early this morning after being caught driving at more than double the speed limit on SW Warfield Boulevard, an area currently under enhanced speed enforcement by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office due to an increase in serious crashes.

According to deputies, Matias Andres Pascual was clocked at 106 mph in a 45-mph zone. Making the situation even more dangerous, Pascual allegedly turned off his headlights to evade detection in foggy conditions. When law enforcement attempted to stop him, he ran a stop sign and fled through a residential neighborhood before finally coming to a stop.

Deputies say Pascual initially refused to open his window or follow commands, but after multiple attempts, he eventually complied and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Martin County Jail on charges of reckless driving and fleeing and eluding.

Authorities confirmed that Pascual, who is from Guatemala, has been placed on an ICE hold.
