TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a formal agreement with ICE, allowing Florida Highway Patrol troopers to receive training and authorization to carry out specific immigration enforcement duties.
This move aligns with President Trump’s plan for the largest deportation effort in U.S. history. The agreement aims at enhancing state-level cooperation in immigration enforcement, while it has sparked a debate regarding state overreach into federal immigration responsibilities.
“President Trump is committed to effectuating the largest deportation effort in U.S. history. To help fulfill this mission, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has offered an agreement with the Florida Highway Patrol to be trained & authorized by ICE to carry out immigration enforcement actions here in our state,” DeSantis posted on X.
“Thanks to strong leadership from the Trump Administration, state law enforcement will now be able to execute ICE’s 287(g) program to deport illegal aliens without unnecessary delays.
Florida law enforcement officers are already doing great work, and we look forward to unleashing even more resources to capture and deport the illegal aliens who were invited into our country by the Biden Administration. These next four years must be when we end the illegal immigration crisis once and for all.”
