Severe Thunderstorms, Wind Advisory For Central Florida

, Florida – An approaching cold front will bring severe thunderstorms and high wind gusts across on Sunday February 16, 2025, according to the ‘s Storm Prediction Center.

A line of gusty showers and isolated lightning storms will approach and begin to move into Lake and Volusia counties toward early to mid-afternoon. This activity will have the potential to produce strong wind gusts up to 40 to 45 mph as it progresses southward through the I-4 corridor. Additional storm threats will include occasional cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and heavy downpours. This line will then weaken and diminish through late afternoon and evening as it continues southward.

A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Service for Orange, Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties from 9 AM to 4 PM Sunday. Southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 to 40 mph are forecast in these areas.

South to southwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph across the area today, shortly after sunrise. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 AM to 4 PM across Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and northern Brevard counties, where wind gusts up to 35 to 40 mph are forecast. Farther south across east-central Florida, windy conditions are still expected, but gusts will be closer to 30 to 35 mph. Make sure to secure loose outdoor objects.
