TALLAHASSEE, Florida – A rare and powerful winter storm is poised to bring snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures to parts of Florida, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a Winter Storm Warning for the Panhandle, Big Bend, and northeast Florida.

The warning is in effect from 1 PM EST (noon CST) Tuesday through 1 PM EST (noon CST) Wednesday. This storm is expected to bring hazardous conditions that could severely impact travel and infrastructure in areas unaccustomed to winter weather.

  • Snow and Ice Accumulations: Areas in the Panhandle and Big Bend could see snow and sleet totals up to 4 inches, with ice accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch. In northeast Florida, snow and ice totals are expected to be lower but still impactful, with up to half an inch of snow and sleet.
  • Extreme Cold: Wind chills as low as 11°F are forecast for some areas, leading to dangerous conditions for those exposed to the elements.
